BY: Co-chairs, KCACC Exposed 9/29/2009
The King County Animal Care & Control Officers' Guild appears to have won in its bid to install itself at the Seattle Humane Society - by a margin of just one vote. No word yet on whether this result will be appealed. Read an email below from Seattle Humane CEO Brenda Barnette announcing the results of the election, provided to KCACC Exposed by an organization employee:

Subject: Preliminary Election Results
Hello,
Today the qualified staff who voted appears to have elected to be represented by the Animal Control Officer’s Guild (ACOG) by one vote. The results of the vote are not final.
The formality of the vote is over and there should be no noticeable change on campus. Our mission and our work are the same.
Over the next few weeks, decisions will be made by our management team and the Board of Directors about whether or not Seattle Humane Society will file an appeal to challenge the vote. The staff who have chosen to bring the ACOG to the Seattle Humane Society will begin selecting the member(s) from the group who will volunteer their time for ACOG business.
At some point, these volunteers will work with the NLRB/ACOG to propose a contract for the Seattle Humane Society to consider and the collective bargaining process will begin. As you probably know from listening to the news, a collective bargaining process can take anywhere from a few days to months. Management will make every effort to keep you informed as the process unfolds.
Now that the formal election is over, it is important for each member of the team to avoid any extreme demonstrations of disappointment or happiness as we rebuild any loss of camaraderie that may have occurred in the last several weeks.
The animals are counting on us.
Thank you,
Brenda
